It is a central project of\nCaritas Bangladesh. BARACA was initiated by the Holy Cross Brothers in\nBangladesh on 1st July 1988 and it is the first drug treatment and\nrehabilitation center in Bangladesh. It provides services for treatment and&nbsp;rehabilitation\nfor drug dependent persons (male &amp; female), awareness on drug, harm &amp;\nrisk reduction, Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) for the drug dependent\npersons, day-care and night shelter for the street-based children at risk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Goals and Objectives<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>BARACA\ncontributes towards the following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/sustainable-development-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goal 1:<\/strong> Health Education and Care (Address SDGs 2, 3 &amp; 6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Strengthen\nPrevention, Treatment and After-care Services for Drug Addiction and Sex Abuse.<\/li><li>Strengthen\nPrimary Health Care.<\/li><li>Strengthen\nPro-Life Reproductive Health Education.<\/li><li>Sensitize\nCommunity to Prevent Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), HIV &amp; AIDS and\nother Communicable Diseases.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><br> <strong>Goal 2:<\/strong> Quality Education (Address SDG 4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Children\nfrom deprived community have access to education.<\/li><li>Promote\nmoral and ethical education.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goal 3:<\/strong> Poverty Reduction (Address SDG 1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Employment\ncreation.<\/li><li>Improve\nsocio-economic condition and dignity of life.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PARTNERS IN DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Drug\ndependent persons<\/li><li>Children\n<\/li><li>Youth\nand Adolescent<\/li><li>Women<\/li><li>Elderly<\/li><li>Government\nof Bangladesh<\/li><li>Donors\nfrom home and abroad<\/li><li>Media<\/li><li>Like-minded\norganizations, Forum and networks both national and international.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Basic\nprinciples of BARACA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>An\naddict is sick, he is not bad or mad.<\/em><em><\/em><\/li><li><em>All\ndrug users deserve a chance to have a life with human dignity.<\/em><em><\/em><\/li><li><em>Our\ngenuine love and appropriate care can give the drug user brothers and sisters a\nlife full of hope and dignity.<\/em><em><\/em><\/li><li><em>Hate\nsin, not the sinner; they too are victims of society! They deserve a second\nchance.<\/em><em><\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BARACA in Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Major interventions under\neach goal are described below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal 1: Health Education and Care (Address SDGs 2, 3\n&amp; 6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Improve health education and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interventions: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BARACA established two Treatment &amp; Rehabilitation Centers for men and women, four Drop in\nCenters (DICs) for men, women, children (boys &amp; girls) and<em> two <\/em>Night shelters for children (boys\n&amp; girls) to perform the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primary health care service; Prevention, treatment and\nafter-care services for drug addicts and sex abusers; Harm reduction; Health and nutrition; Adolescent health care; and\nPro-life reproductive health education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Treatments\nand Rehabilitation (Male &amp; Female)<\/li><li>Harm\nReduction (DIC\u2019s &amp; Night shelter)<\/li><li>Awareness\nProgram<\/li><li>Follow-up<\/li><li>VCT\n(Voluntary Counseling &amp; Testing)<\/li><li>Networking among the drug treatment &amp;\nrehabilitation centers<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increased\naccess to primary health care services and measures are in practice.<\/li><li>Communities\nare sensitized to STI, HIV and AIDS and improving quality of life.<\/li><li>Reduced\nharms and risks of drug users and sex workers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\nGoal 2: Quality Education (Address SDG 4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Promote education rights and Inclusive Quality\nEducation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interventions: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrange primary education to the street children;\nProvide life skill education to the children and clients; Provide moral and ethical\neducation to the clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Children\nprimary education in Drop in Centers (DICs) are functional.<\/li><li>Street\nchildren have access to nearby primary schools.<\/li><li>Staff,\nclients (drug users) and children developed their moral values. <\/li><li>Communities\nare responsive towards street children and drug users.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\nGoal 3: Poverty Reduction (Address SDG 1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interventions: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provide vocational training to the clients; provide\ntrade training to the parents of street children; Provide capital for small\ntrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Clients have access to job oriented skill training.<\/li><li>Parents run small trades;<\/li><li>Facilitate job opportunities to the clients and children at the age of 18.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BARACA program\u2019s Mission:<\/strong><em><br>\n\u2013<\/em>BARACA program exists to help drug\nusers irrespective of cast, creed, religion and economic situations.<br>\n\u2013Provides services and VCT non-judgmentally to marginally and neglected male\nand female who are living on&nbsp;&nbsp; the\nstreets to reduce personal and social risk.<br>\n\u2013To conduct awareness programs on Drugs, HIV\/AIDS, and Hepatitis B &amp; C.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bangladesh Rehabilitation and Assistance Center for Addicts (BARACA) is a non-government, non-profitable voluntary development organization.
